Having Trouble Downloading your Ringtone ?

It is really easy to download ringtones nowadays given the convenience of having a growing number of ringtone providers. Still, there are several issues that concern people who try to download tones from these ringtone servers.

Compatibility of the End User Browser

There are times when users do not test tones before downloading them because of plug-ins that are missing as well as browser compatibility. The majority of web sites that provide ringtone downloading require plug-ins so that ringtones can be tested first. Other web sites such as these require Java Scripts to be activated for the tones to properly play. This results in the cell phone owner taking chances when downloading a ringtone without testing it first.

Codes That Are Embedded

One of the most common problems when downloading tones is the embedded codes that come with the ringtone. Beware of such sites that offer free downloads but have embedded codes that are added to the tones. They have ringers that have corrupted files and several are designed to have scripts that do much damage to the user’s computer. Also, the installation of advertising software to a host computer is a familiar issue related to embedded codes.

User Compatibility

Foremost among the problems experienced by network providers and a lot of people after downloading several ringtones from various sites is the compatibility between the ringtone and the mobile phone itself. It is unfortunate that not all ringtones are compatible with the majority of cell phones. For every cell phone there is a recommended mobile phone tone type that has proper file extension and encoding.                               

Compatibility gives rise to two concerns, the first being the type of tone in question and second, its format or file extension. There are restrictions for mobile phones when it comes to the types of ringtones it is able to store in its memory. Some phones can store monophonic tones exclusively while others can store combinations of ringtones like truetones and the polyphonic tones or polyphonic and monophonic tones.

Limited Network Coverage

When downloading ringtones from web portals, they may require the tones to be downloaded to a user’s mobile phone by sending the file via SMS or MMS. The problem is, most web sites cater only to a specific list of network providers or carriers. If your network provider is not on that list, this would mean you can not avail of their offered ringer. Besides that, cell phones that have not yet activated their MMS services are unable to receive files via MMS. This would need the service activation from the mobile subscriber’s network provider.

An alternative option for non-US customers would be to download the ringer first and store it in a computer. When uploading it to the cell phone, the user must establish a secure connection between phone and computer via Infrared or Bluetooth. Another way to upload it is through wired connections between the mobile device and the host computer.
